Team San Diego

18 and Under

The United States Amateur Baseball Federation (USABF) is accepting applications to play on its 18-Under Team San Diego during the 2008 summer season. The team places a high priority on player development and is scheduled for league and tournament play in San Diego and Ohio.  In 2007, Team San Diego was composed of a number of high school players from Southern California as well as two returning players with college experience. The team posted a 29-14 record.

Grossmont Community College will be the home field for Team San Diego 2008 and will be the site of the majority of its games.  As in the past, members of Grossmont College staff will coach Team San Diego.  With the Grossmont coaching staff conducting the team’s practice sessions and game play, players will have an excellent opportunity to experience first hand what will be expected of them as they advance to the next level of their playing careers. Playing on Team San Diego in the past has led to offers from college programs in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Hawaii.

This summer Team San Diego is scheduled to play a minimum of 40 games, with five games scheduled for most weeks. Team San Diego, along with seven of the finest traveling teams in San Diego will compete in the 18-Under Division of San Diego Elite Baseball League. The SDEBL is affiliated with Pony Baseball, the American Amateur Baseball Congress (Connie Mac), the National Amateur Baseball Federation, the United States Amateur Baseball Federation  (USABF), and  the Continental Amateur Baseball Federation (CABA). Each organization offers a berth in their national tournaments. 

Team San Diego will start its season in Palm Springs before returning to San Diego for league play.  Other tournaments scheduled include the San Diego Elite Classic, the USABF Baden’s Best of the Best, the USABF Fourth of July Classic, the SDEBL League Championships and the USABF’s Wood Bat National Championship.  Team San Diego concludes summer play by competing in the CABA World Series, played in Struther, Ohio. 

The team will spend a week in Ohio, leaving San Diego on July 26 and returning on August 4.   The CABA World Series offers a six-game guarantee with games played at the Cleveland Indians Single-A baseball facility in Struther.

The fee for the Team San Diego summer program is $2,250.00, which includes all tournament and league fees, travel to Ohio, lodging in Ohio, two meals per day and transportation while playing Ohio.  Each player will also receive one USABF event pass, good for one daily admission at all USABF events.  Additional USABF event passes may be purchased at a reduced price by player families.

Team San Diego is a well organized and coached team. It may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for an opportunity to play a full summer of highly competitive on a team coached by a nationally-known college staff, you may want to consider this year’s team.
